The closet is an unholy, unhealthy and damaging place. And many of us are powerless to leave it without help, much in the same way that people cannot escape other forms of mental illness without professional intervention and the love and support of family and friends. And just in case you’re not paying attention, it’s not being gay that makes us troubled and damaged, it’s being forced to live in the closet as a result of fear, oppression and bigotry.
