Tin Foil Soldier was hanging because I had a “what am i listeing to” type section pulling information for last.fm
Apparently last.fm’s servers went down, and since my page was pulling data from them and rendering it in php before the page gets sent to the browser it was just hanging waiting for a response from their servers.
grrr badly written plugins for wordpress, it should be all fixed now
