Joe. My. God.: Soon To Be On A T-Shirt Near You

Here’s a thought: If you are an athiest, (muslim, buddhist, pagan, or bascially anything besides Christian) - does placing your hand on the Bible ‘bind’ you to your swear, any more than if you placed your hand on the yellow pages and took an oath?

um, I think you missed the point entirely

LOL. No, I got the point, I should have said ‘off topic but…’

even more off topic, did you see Fried Green Tomatoes? The preacher was in court and was trying to get Idgie off cause she killed Frank Bennett, so he took his own “Bible” to swear on. He later tells Idgie that he swore in with his hand on Moby Dick.
I love that movie

no, but it sounds like what I’m talking about. I’m glad they swear to uphold the Constitution (too bad more of them don’t live up to their vows), but what does putting your hand upon the Bible mean, except for believers?
Isn’t it like the complete meshing of church and state? Vowing to do your job, being held accountable by a book ‘of a specific faith’? I’m really deviating from the topic.
