mosquito

Here’s the 10-second version:

Most humans are born with the ability to hear frequencies from about 20 Hz (low) up to 20,000 Hz (high) but that range shrinks as we get older. A guy in England figured that meant kids can hear things adults can’t - specifically, very high frequencies. He created a device that pulses an annoying tone at about 15,000 Hz with the idea that when the device is used, it will repel kids while being unnoticed by adult. Perfect for solving that youth-loitering problem you’ve been having in front of your shop.

He has a bunch of frequency samples, from 10-22,000Hz

on my crappy work speakers I can hear up to about 17,000 Hz, but at 18 the speakers start to crackle and I just don’t think they can reproduce that high of a frequency. I will try it at home on my stereo and see how high I can hear.

My boss, who is about 30ish can hear the mosquito pulse quite perfectly as well.

  • I dunno, on my rediculously cheap speakers I can make out 20,000 Hz pretty clearly. After that I don’t hear anything… but the 21 and 22 thousand Hz kindof make my head hurt.
