Hard drive not found
I took a vacation day on Friday, and it was good I did because Thursday night after work I tried to authenticate my xbox to my storage array and it just kept failing.
I go to check on the domain controller and get no response via the network. Shit. I go downstairs to the server rack and the screen is black with the horrid words “NTDETECT FAILED.”
double shit.
the hard drive was dead and there was no recovering it, I tried everything.
Triple shit.
my last backup was 4/11/2007 from before the last time I tried the upgrade to 2003-SP2. Fortunately there was no other server to tombstone it so I replaced the laptop hard drive and reinstalled windows. That was enough for the night, i needed a drink and a movie so phil and i watched Shooter. Friday, after some little issues, I did a full restore to how my domain was in the beginning of April.
delete a few accounts, add an account or two, rejoin melchior, balthasar and gehirn to the domain and I am all set. Now i need to decide if i want to just schedule backups more often or if i should set up a replicated domain environment.
