The First R is for Reduce!
We Love The Environment: Borders Forces Customer To Take Plastic Bag, Claims It Is “Proof Of Purchase”
BY NAMILIA AT 07/31/07 11:50 AMI think the whole thing is petty. She’s taking environmentalism too far for blowing this so out of proportion, and the cashier was bogus for her responses as well. A plastic bag isn’t the end of the world.

Just buy a carbon offset and everything will be ok.

People will complain about anything these days huh.
Her taking the bag and recycling it herself would be more environmentally friendly than giving it to the next person in line who would probably just trash it.

Why didn’t she just take the plastic bag and avoid the whole confrontation? If she’s such a hippy, she should know how and where to recycle it!
These people are all part of the problem. The first R is Reduce, then Reuse, then Recycle. Sure, she could reuse the bag she didn’t need, sure, she could recycle the bag she didn’t need, but SHE DIDN’T NEED IT in the first place. Thats where the “reduce” comes into play. I try to not get a bag if I don’t need one, and I am really close to just buying the re-usable bags from wegmans. I would have bought them yesterday but I had already cashed out.
My main problem with the re-usable bags is I would forget them. I promise you, Internet, that I will buy some of the 99 cent bags next time I go shopping, and that I will keep them in my car when not in a Wegmans so that they are always ready to be used.
