Violin robot

The race to produce the first practical home robots has heated up with Toyota’s new range - including one that plays the violin.
Is it just me, or does the second part of the sentence contradict the first part? I understand that a robot that can play the violin means that it has a high level of articulation in its arms and hands, but does the fact that it can play a violin really make it a “practical home robot” ? Maybe I am just not enough of a violin-a-phile to understand why it is practical to have a robot play an actual violin as opposed to a good set of speakers, but it seems like there would be an easier way to reach that goal.
