VW Keys
VWvortex Forums: DIY guide to switchblade key remote replacement
Programming the remote…
If you have two (or more) working keys of your car, then you also the option of doing it without using a VAG-COM. Just do the following:
1. Insert any one of the working keys into the ignition lock and switch to the ON position without starting the engine.
2. Using any of the remaining keys, manually lock your car from the outside.
3. Press either LOCK or UNLOCK on the remote (to be programmed) once, then wait 2 seconds.
4. Press either button again once.
5. Switch off ignition and remove key from ignition.
6. You should hear a beep as a confirmation that the programming is completed
It will not beep, however, if it simply doesn’t work because when you took it apart to let your roommate borrow the battery, you put the battery back in upside-down.
Oops. Didn’t really cause me much of an inconvenience, but I still ran up and down the stairs checking checking the vortex for directions after trying myself, and then making sure I did it right.
If you have a VW, and ever want to figure out how to do just about anything on your car, refer to the vortex. There are so many instruction guides on the MK IV DIY FAQ that just about everything I have ever needed to do to the car, and some things I didn’t need, have guides from fellow dubbers
