Microsoft User

I taught a session today on using Outlook rules to sort your e-mail. I use them extensively to put mail in folders in both my personal and work accounts.

Later people said they used Outlook Express, Apple Mail, OWA, Thunderbird, etc. I sometimes feel bad that I am a nerd that finds Microsoft products to be extremely usable and stable. I use Outlook 2007 for my e-mail. I use Windows XP Pro at home and love it. I use Vista Enterprise at work and think its extremely stable. The only time I reboot my computer at work is when updates need to be installed.

Don’t even get me started on how I think Exchange is the best e-mail server / solution that exists. Active Sync? It’s ability to sync my phone with my Outlook whenever, wherever, without me losing complete control of my device (I’m looking at you Blackberry) is a huge boost in productivity. I went to the dentist this morning, and when they make my 6 month checkup appointment I just put it in my phone and when the time comes, I will be reminded a week before so that I don’t even have to worry about it until then. No little cards to put on the fridge, no writing it on a paper calendar that I might forget to change the month on. Just plain, simple, automatic synchronization between my phone and my computer.

Sure, Apple designs nice hardware, but I personally don’t like the way the OS works. I am a huge multi-tasker, and I just don’t think that OSX lends itself well to my style of high speed multitasking.

I even use OneNote, the program that people aren’t quite sure what it does.
