Socks

GUEST BLOG: Socks - A History at Puntabulous
When I was a kid you could always tell the “have” kids from the “have not” kids by their socks. If their socks stayed up around their calves they were definitely “have” kids. If, on the other hand, their socks slid down around their ankles they were poor, “have not” kids.

Craig’s Dad did a guest post over at Puntabulous, which I think is just awesome in concept alone, but it is a great post that kinda gets you thinking, or at least me thinking.

One of my biggest dreams when I was a child was to throw away all of my socks and buy enough of the same socks so that I would never have to sort them again.  A while back my ex got my a big bag of my favorite ankle socks from BJs and I got rid of all the socks that were shot and saved some for cleaning rags.  I ended up needing to buy more socks because he insisted that 10 pairs or whatever would be enough but it wasn’t so now I have a “new” set of socks and an “old” set of socks.  Same socks, just slightly different wear and fading.

I like the look of black socks as well, but never had that many pairs.  I bought a 6-pack of Hanes black ankle socks while back and loved them.  I decided that I needed more socks so I bought another 6-pack at Sears for like 9.99.  For some reason those socks are still thicker and fuzzier than my “old” black socks, even though they have been through the wash 6-10 times.  They are still comfy and everything, but when I wear them to the gym my feet get sweaty (obviously) and then the excess fuzz sticks to my feet and then I have feet covered in black fuzz.

I always get shit because I don’t wear sneakers, I wear brown leather Doc Martens almost every day.  If I don’t have them on I have a pair of brown leather Skechers.  Or some other brown leather shoe.  Anyway, I wear white socks with my brown “dress shoes” and people at work say it looks bad.  They also don’t entirely like the black socks with the brown leather, but I think it looks nice and wear it anyway.

That sure sounds like alot of socks you might say, but I wear at least 2 pairs of socks a day on weekdays.  Even with weekly laundry (but lets be honest, its bi-weekly) I still go through ALOT of socks because I go to the gym every day.

This post reminded me that I need to go buy another pair of Doc Martens because I need a pair of boots that go over the ankle for my motorcycle class.  I went and got my permit yesterday and the helmet and gloves the day before.  Now all I need is to learn how to ride a motorcycle and then to acquire said motorcycle.
