how ‘homophobic’ are you?

frontline: assault on gay america: how ‘homophobic’ are you?
In 1996, as part of his study on homophobia, Dr. Henry Adams and his colleagues at the University of Georgia developed their own “Homophobia Scale” by modifying scales used by other researchers in earlier studies. It’s a 25-item questionnaire “designed to measure your thoughts, feelings and behaviors with regards to homosexuality.” The instructions stressed: “It is not a test, so there are no right or wrong answers.”

I got: Your score rates you as “high-grade non-homophobic.”

#13 says “I tease and make jokes about gay people.”  I think its okay if a gay person makes sarcastic jokes about gay as long as everyone knows that they are gay, otherwise it can come off as well, mean.

We went to see the X-Files movie last night and it was a complete waste of time and money.  I haven’t really watched X-files or the older movie, but I was told that this one basically played out like a bad episode of the TV show.  The funny thing is the gay people in the movie.  All of the “out” gay people in the movie have foreign accents.  Is that supposed to be some kind of statement?  Apparently all homosexuals in Virgina are from other countries? Also, spoiler alert for the next gay part.

The main “bad guys” of the movie are a gay couple where one of them is sick with cancer, so the other one goes out and steals bodies of people and then Russian surgeons somehow use the magic of stem cells to attach the sick man’s head to said kidnapped bodies.  They even went to the extent of saying “and guess who he is married to in the state of Massachusetts” when revealing how the characters are connected.  They aren’t married, they are “Married in the state of Massachusetts” because it apparently isn’t the same as a regular marriage to the X-Files folks.

On one level its like, why did they need to make the couple gay?  Why were the only gay people in the movie crazy killers and psychic pedophiles?

Perhaps a woman bad guy might have not been as believable at kidnapping the people they used as host bodies; but they were all women.  Why did they take women and use their bodies to attach the sick man’s head to?

On the other hand, maybe they were trying to show that the love that a gay couple has can be just as strong as the love that makes a straight couple do crazy things to save a loved one?  Thats a pretty big maybe though.
